- Related Software
- ================
-
- Here is a list of TeX-related programs for the Mac that might be of interest
- to OzTeX users. All the programs are freeware or shareware and are widely
- available at various ftp sites that specialize in Mac or TeX-related software.
- Good sites to try are midway.uchicago.edu or any of the CTAN sites:
- ftp.shsu.edu, ftp.tex.ac.uk or ftp.dante.de. CTAN stands for Comprehensive
- TeX Archive Network; all the CTAN sites mirror one another to maintain an
- up-to-date collection of files in a consistent directory structure.
- After logging in to a CTAN site you can locate a file called "xxx" by
- typing "quote site index xxx".
-
- Alpha
- -----
- A sophisticated text editor by Pete Keleher. Contains many useful features
- for simplifying the input of TeX and LaTeX files.
-
- CMacTeX
- -------
- Tom Kiffe's Macintosh implementation of TeX and friends. Might be of interest
- to people who are familiar with TeX under Unix. Available by ftp from CTAN
- sites and math.tamu.edu. Note that Tom's versions of dvips and Metafont are
- distributed with OzTeX (under a separate shareware fee).
-
- dvidvi
- ------
- This is a handy little program written by Tom Rokicki to do tricky things with
- DVI files. For example, it can merge two A5 pages so they'll print side by
- side on a single landscaped A4 page. Timothy Murphy's Mac port of dvidvi
- is available from ftp.maths.tcd.ie.
-
- Euro-OzTeX
- ----------
- A version of OzTeX by Yannis Haralambous which includes DC fonts and other
- enhancements for European languages. Available by ftp from ftp.cicb.fr in
- pub/gut/Euro-OzTeX.
-
- Excalibur
- ---------
- A Macintosh spelling checker by Rick Zaccone and Robert Gottshall.
- Although designed to handle LaTeX documents, it also does a fairly good job
- with plain TeX files. Requires System 6.0.4 or higher. Available by ftp from
- sol.cs.bucknell.edu in pub/mac. Rick's e-mail address is zaccone@bucknell.edu.
-
- fontinst
- --------
- A TeX macro package by Alan Jeffrey for reading Adobe Font Metric (AFM) files
- and converting them into PL or VPL files (which can then be turned into TFM
- files by OzTools). You'll need to create a Big-Plain format to use fontinst;
- the OzTeX User Guide describes how to build big formats.
-
- Ghostscript
- -----------
- A PostScript interpreter originally created by L. Peter Deutsch.
- The Mac implementation (known as MacGS) is by Martin Fong. Very handy for
- previewing PostScript files and debugging PostScript code (I wish this was
- available when I started OzTeX; it would have saved a few trees).
-
- HyperBibTeX
- -----------
- HyperBibTeX by Evan Antworth is a Macintosh HyperCard stack for managing
- bibliography databases compatible with BibTeX. Requires HyperCard version 2.
-
- MacBibTeX
- ---------
- A Macintosh implementation of Oren Patashnik's BibTeX program done by
- Jim Studt and Michael Kahn. BibTeX is used in conjunction with LaTeX to
- generate a bibliography from information stored in a bibliographic database.
-
- MacMakeIndex
- ------------
- A Macintosh implementation of Pehong Chen's MakeIndex program done by
- Johnny Tolliver. MakeIndex can be used to create a sorted index for your
- TeX and LaTeX documents.
-
- ViewPS
- ------
- Another implementation of Ghostscript (see above) by Tom Kiffe.
